Ladismith Butter or Spreado (softened for spreading)
1 large egg
Garlic and herb seasoning (to taste)
Wooden or bamboo sosatie skewers (soaked in water for 10 minutes)
Method
Lightly butter one side of every slice of bread.
Place a buttered slice down (butter side up). Place a slice of ham on top. Top with a slice of cheese and a slice of bread; repeat until you place the 8th slice of bread, butter side down, on top.
Press down firmly on the sandwich with a pan or cutting board to compact the layers. Use a sharp knife to slice off all four crusts.
Slice the stack into four even squares. Pierce two cubes onto each skewer.
Crack the egg into a small bowl, season with garlic and herb seasoning, and beat together until combined.
Brush the seasoned egg mixture generously over all sides of the bread cubes.
3 Ways to Cook:
* Air Fryer: Lightly grease or line the basket. Lay the sosaties flat side down and cook at 175°C for 8 to 10 minutes, turning halfway, until golden and bubbly.
* Preheated Oven: Place the sosaties on a lined baking tray. Bake at 180°C for 10 to 12 minutes until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden.
* On the Braai: Place a sheet of heavy foil, shiny side down, over a clean braai grid. Lay the sosaties on top of the foil over medium coals. Turn frequently until the cheese melts and the bread has a golden crust.
