South African Souttert

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp. flour
  • 250ml milk
  • 3 medium eggs
  • 1 tsp. English mustard
  • 100g bacon, chopped
  • 100g ham or viennas, cubed
  • 1 cup Ladismith cheddar cheese, grated
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

  • Preheat oven to 180°C.
  • Mix the flour and a dash of milk to form a paste.
  • Add the mustard, eggs, salt, pepper, and the rest of the milk and mix well.
  • Stir in the bacon, ham/viennas, and cheese.
  • Pour into a small pre-greased pie dish or cake pan.
  • Bake for 40-45 minutes until golden and a toothpick inserted in the centre comes out clean.
  • Rest for 15 minutes.
  • Serve warm and enjoy the delicious flavours of this classic South African dish with your favourite summer sides!
